However, since only 500 is needed to open an account, with no maintenance fees or account opening or closing fees, it is well worth trying out what Scottrade offers. A small investor will appreciate the respectful treatment, without worrying about meeting a minimum number of trades or a high minimum balance. Unfortunately, Scottrade does not offer services for more advanced traders, such as futures, forex, flexible commissions, and foreign stocks. Scottrade is also not optimal for serious options traders, as they do not allow options spreads or provide tools for calculating option characteristics.
