MB Trading
was launched in 1999. Their stated focus is on faster, higher quality executions, low fees, and better support.
MB Trading Services
MB Trading is one of the few direct-access traders among discount brokerages, meaning that they trade directly on the NASDAQ, NYSE, and AMEX markets, rather than through third-party firms. The result is some of the fastest executions available.
Further, MB Trading has lived up to its goal of providing quality customer support. Their support staff consistently rank highly among traders for quality and effectiveness.
MB Trading provides a free software platform to its traders, called "MB Navigator." It offers a number of customization options, including the ability to control order routing, and to turn off order confirmation for faster executions. Further, market data, order placement, and execution reports may be configured to all appear on the same screen, so that a trader can keep his eyes on the markets at all times.
Level I quotes are free for all traders, and active traders wit accounts over $25,000 can receive free level II quotes as well. Others traders can get level II quotes at cost of $10 per month.
MB Trading provides access to a wide variety of 3rd party trading tools, including mechanical trading systems, basket trading, and advanced order triggers such as trailing stops, conditional orders, time triggers, and more. After hours trading is available. They also provide comprehensive tax accounting statements, and banking services through a clearing firm.
MB Trading Reviews in the Media
MB trading has achieved top ratings for its trade executions and customer service, as well as its low costs and sophisticated trading platform.
Downsides to Consider
MB Trading is not for everyone. It is geared toward more technically sophisticated investors who trade actively. Its fundamental research tools are thus a bit thin, as it focuses more on the intra-day data that day traders require.
Bottom Line
It's no coincidence that "Trading" is part of the name of this brokerage. MB Trading is focused on online day trading and other active trading strategies. Trading is our top choice for technically savvy investors interested in day trading penny stocks or other issues.
For self-directed traders who are not into day trading,
Zecco.com or
TradeKing.com

will likely be a better choice, as their costs are lower, and their research resources are more geared toward fundamentals.

I have accounts with Fidelity and MB Trading, and will be closing my Fidelity accounts and maybe moving them to MB Trading. I have been with them for 2 or 3 years, and even though I am not a day trader I do like the system.
MB Navigator is a very nice trading platform, and the trades are fast and I seem to get a lot better price than when trading with Fidelity.
The commissions are awesome, and the reason why I gave this relative unknown a shot. It's $1.00 per trade per 100 shares with $4.95 max. With Fidelity it costs me $10.95 per trade, and that's their silver level. That's almost 11 small trades on MB Trading.
The price structure allows an investor to slowly build up a position without worrying too much about the cost of the commissions.
Downside is that MB Navigator is the only way I can trade, and it is application that must be installed on a PC. There is no web trading. Those with Linux, Mac or some other platform are out of luck.
One other major drawback to me is that MB Navigator does not display the cost basis. You get your positions and current bid/ask information, but if you are trying to make a decision of a profit/loss basis, than you'll have to keep track of that info yourself....or look through the "accounting" screens on the MB Trading website.
Also, if you wish to have mutual funds in your potfolio, MB Trading gets pricey - $50 per trade on no-loads.
