Unlike other full service brokers that have branched off into online brokerage services, Merrill Lynch Online is not a separate service. Rather, it's a portal for customers to access to Merrill Lynch accounts online. In other words, it's a front end for Merrill Lynch's Full Service brokerage, which includes all the full service features like Merrill Lynch Advice, analysis, and personal relationships.
Merrill Lynch's reputation precedes it, of course. They have a century of experience guiding clients through the marketplace. Their entree into the online stock broker world has garnered little attention, however. It's a conservative move, obviously intended not to cannibalize on their core full-service business.
