— Completely satisifed long-term customerI've been using B&H.com for nearly 8 years and personally, I couldn't be happier with the service they provide. The site is simple, no frills, and I find it very easy to use for both buying and selling. I started with the basic plan when I was a new investor and have moved to the $14.99 plan to allow me to make more purchases per month. It was easy to set up a link with my bank account. Likewise, on the few occasions I've sold and wanted the cash for other purposes, the money was easily transferred to my bank account. There are no commissions, but to be strict about costs, you can divide $14.99 by the number of transactions you make per month and consider that your commission. I feel the $15/month fee is more than worth what B&H.com provides. I don't consider the site to be anything more than it is: an inexpensive, easy way to acbeepulate shares of stocks and re-invest the dividends.
— database not maintained any moreSince you guys are using this site, I wonder whether the average purchase price has been messed up on your balance & holding page. Its customer services now starts to ask customers to calculate and provide the average purchase price to them for updates. It was updated automatically at least up to two years ago whenever you buy or sell. Now this basic service is gone. Not just this basic maintainance is going, If you sell a stock and have to report it on your tax return, you will have to go page by page to find when you had bought the stock and how much you paid each time.
Does anyone else have these problem?
— Buy and Hold is a great firm for the do it yourself type wbeepalready understands the stock market, has an investment plan, and knows exactly what he or she wants to do. It is NOT for the beginner or for the uninformed; don't expect to get anything beyond what they explicitly offer.
They don't offer fractional shares, they don't offer advice; they're a plain, no frills company that is going to be perfect for some small investors and a nightmare for others. Make sure they are going to work for you before you opt in.
This is not the company to go with if you need investment advice or someone to ask questions of; this is for the experienced investor, not the untried amateur.
I give them four stars instead of five because they're not a complete service company, but at what they are set up to do, they excel.
— Know what you're getting.Great site for dollar-cost averaging. Just know what you're getting and what you're not. They're great at what they do, just make sure it's what you want.
4 stars instead of 5 because they don't offer fractional shares. Check out Sharebuilder if you're starting out with a very small amount.
