— Beware selling with market orders

I found out a stock I sold this am at the opening sold almost 10% BELOW the low for the day. I checked and rechecked on several sites. I think Scottrade has its own version of lows and one should protect themselves from getting ripped of by placing only stops or limits. When I called they consulted the trading desk and told me it was a "good" trade. It surely was good for them but Bad for me.

— Arbitrary and Capricious Change in Margin Requirements!!!!!

Scottrade has for the second time changed their requirements on margin for ETF's. This has and can put one in a most untenable position if the market is not in your favor at the time. I should have cancelled and closed the account the first time, but was waiting for a more opportune time. The second raise in margin call has forced me to close the account with an untimely and uncalled for loss.

— Scottrade a positive experience.for me.

I have traded for less than two years using Scottrade the entire time.

There is a personal touch with a Brokerage office nearby in Greensboro NC.
I've never been by thier office but they are polite and helpful on the phone.

Java based stock screen with real time quotes allows easy monitering of your portfolio plus any stocks you watch. You can easily trade from this same screen.
-------------------------------------
I think TradeKings blogs and Tools for interaction between users is a
terrific feature. This could be very helpful to new investors. And provide
food for thought to all. Traders can display thier trades if they wish
and many do. 300 to 400 percent gain per month makes for interesting reading to me.

— Lack of information and features not impressive.

Last summer, my husband and I wanted to get into the stock market especially to buy Delphi stock since they were bankrupt. We did all the research into the best brokerages and settled on Scottrade because it was all online and their trades were $7. In setting up the account, I had to go to my bank get a cashier's check and deposit it into the Scottrade account since they didn't do direct transfers. They have since made that feature available. We purchased Delphi stock and a few others. No where in the information on the website did it tell us that once Delphi came out of bankruptcy the stock we had purchased would be worthless. When information did come out about Delphi coming out of bankruptcy and the stockholders potentially getting stock from Delphi, Scottrade knew nothing about it. Everytime I would call to find out information to make a decision to keep or to sell, they knew nothing. I have since started looking at other brokers. My only other complaint was that the other stocks we held that pay dividends Scottrade would not allow us to roll it over to buy more stock.

— Free Trade Errors but Great Trading Tools

I am a day trader by profession and although primarily trade other financial products, I have had a equities account with Scottrade for 1 year now. Most of the tools and resources that Scottrade offers are sufficient for most investors. For advanced traders they might come up short, but you likely have other services that fill in the gaps. Their chartign and technical indicators are sufficient. The screening tools for stocks, mutual funds and EFT are very usefule when you know the criteria for the investments you want. Simply enter your filtering criteria and you get a list that can be further filtered if desired.

With that said, I had several problems with their setup and getting what was promised (free trades). Initially it took longer than normal to get my deposit credited to my account. I was referred by an existing account holder so me and the account holder would receive 3 free trades. I received my first placed trade for free, but then had to pay for the next several before getting my free trades back after contacting my local broker office. The reason is when you input a trade the free trade is marked internally in their system as used, but if you modify or delete the order before it is actually fullfilled then the system is not designed to credit your account. This must be done manually by their employees. Due to human error, this doesn't alays happen. Because of the system design, if you input several positions, only the first 3 entered are ear-marked for the free trade. But if entered 5 waiting for the prices to hit your entry criteria, if your 4th or 5th trade is executed first you are charged for the trade.

I am new in investing field and i saw many investing companies now these days. Although I didn?t find any great investing firms, I felt comfortable with scottrade. The company provides all cost information up front, with no hidden costs. I found its services satisfactory. The firm provided me full information about trading. With Scottrade A small investor also can join easily due to the low minimum investment. They treat all levels of investor with the same amount of respect and handle all customer service issues very efficiently as well as quickly and satisfactory. I am very happy with my decision to choose scottrade as my online trading firm. The cost is minimal at $7 per trade, which is lower than almost all other online stock trading firms and companies. The people at the branch are also very willing to assist you in person, as well as over the phone and via internet.

— Good...could be better.

Scottrade is generally a good company. They have a clean website, and a really nice user interface. They have Gainskeeper (keeps track of what you have made/lost) which is a really sweet feature. My major...only real problem with Scottrade is their price, and their minimum. Faced with Scottrades $7 trades, or Zecco's $0, Zecco is the obvious choice. Same with their account minimum.

On the plus side, another great thing about Scottrade is their fee free IRAs. That is one thing that they do better then Zecco. Zecco's cost $35 per year.

Scottrade does a wonderful job for stock research, providing both S&P PDFs, and Reuters. If you feel that you aren’t as skilled a trader as your buddy at work, don’t worry, because Scottrade takes care of all of that.

So, if you want a more mature platform for trading, and don't care about paying $7 every time you trade, then Scottrade would be a great choice.
